Social Security card?

My social security card was stolen last night after somebody broke into my car. I have no idea what to do about it. I have already contacted an agency that say that it can no longer be used, but is there a way that I can change my social security number? What do I do now? Have any of you ever gotten your social security card stolen?

Social Security card?
New numbers aren't given, except in cases of harassment and domestic abuse, when a victim needs to be able to hide from an abuser.

Here is a link to information on how to replace a lost or stolen card. You will need to replace your driver's license or ID card before you can replace your SS card.
Reply:here is the info you need to report your card lost or stolen, hope it hepls.

Reporting a lost or stolen card will not prevent its misuse. If you have lost your card, you may apply for a replacement but Social Security takes no action just because it has been lost or stolen. However, a person using your card or number can get other personal information about you and apply for credit in your name. So if you suspect someone is using your number, you should take these steps to protect yourself and your financial health.

1. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission; go to this website andfill out this form online:

https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.start...

2. Check your Social Security records (call toll-free 1-800-772-1213; TTY 1-800-325-0778) to ensure your income is calculated correctly

3. and i know its just another monthly bill you probaly dont need but i would strongly suggest paying for a service for a while that can monitor your credit reports and notifies you when something looks suspicious, here is just one of those many sites:

ive had my identity stolen so i feel for you i hope this helps :) happy holidays
Reply:Go to the SocialSecurity website - they may have FAQ's that address this issue. Call them Monday morning.
Reply:Your number, is yours for life. Just keep an eye on your credit so nothing wrong shows up.

If an illegal uses it for a job, the money he pays will go into your account, but if someone used it for benefits, then it will be your benefits he will be receiving.

I would check with SS every few months and check up on things.
Reply:you can not change your SSN
Reply:Mine has never been stolen, but I have lost it before. The first thing you need to do is report your card stolen. Then you need to get a new SSC. It is very unlikely that they will give you a new number, so monitor your credit reports regularly. There are Identity Theft agencies to help prevent your identity from being stolen, but that may not be necessary. Visit http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10002.html for more info.

Sorry about your card and I hope this is helpful.
Reply:No you cant change your SSN. You need to go to the DMV and get a new card. You also NEED to contact the three credit reporting bureaus and put a freeze on your credit...Stolen SSN's can lead to major identity theft.
Reply:Go to the SS office and apply for a new one. DUH!
Reply:#1 You should report this theft to the Social Security Administration.

#2 Report this theft to the police NOW, if you haven't done so.

#3 You Can change your Social Security Number.

#4 you will have to give them valid reasons for the change.

#5 Your SSAN cannot legally be used for identification. Anyone who asks forf or demands it is abusing federal privacy laws.

#6 The reporting of the theft, the obtaining of a new Social Security Number will take a bit of time. Hang in there, It'll get better..
Reply:no.
Reply:Make a police report. Get a replacement. Get a credit report in the near future to check for possible fraud done under your ss#. I don't think you can easily get a changed ss#.
Reply:First thing is that you can LOCK your credit history. So if anybody tries to get credit card in your name, it will be denied because the credit report will NOT be issues.

The only negative is that you will have to pay about $10 every time you want to "allow" a credit report to be issued. So that can get expensive when you are buying a car or house.

Good Luck.
Reply:Freeze your credit asap- this way, the thief won't be able to use it to get a credit card or buy anything under your name.

Go to the nearest SS office and ask if you can change it (sometimes they give you another number). And last, never keep your ss card in your car again.
