What SOCIAL CLASS do you think you are in and why do you think this? What ways have you been brought up.......
I as middle class as it gets. I value education, hard work, giving back to society, and frugal spending. I vote in every election. When I buy a new car I drive it until the wheels fall off.
Reply:Socially and Culturally, I'm upper-middle.

Economically, lower-middle, but I dont need much.

I have a blue collar job but was not born into (nor do I live) a blue collar lifestyle.
Reply:poor/working/2nd gen. immigrants kid.

we value education and hard work.

Being poor sux in so many ways, so we tend to be driven after money and prestige.

I am trying to get outta that mindset. yes I want to be wealthy, but I am trying to think more like a person of wealth. Enjoy life and stick close to basics.

education for poorer ppl tends to focus on making it through life, education for right focuses making life your own.
Reply:I would say I'm in the lowest class-because I have no money/no job/no possessions

I don't like the term social class because it implies people are better the higher they are in class

I was probably raised in the middle class w/ both parents working and living in a moderately nice house/ w/ always having food and clothing

My lifestyle reflects the poor class as I don't do anything and I am mooching off of my parents for food and shelter
Reply:I grew up middle class but ever since I got married and discovered the REAL WORLD I am now lower class. If only I would have stayed at home longer.
Reply:I think the term 'social class' is dated, but I also think that (in the UK anyway) classes are still very much here.

My dads family were definitely lower - or is that working? class people, my mums were downright snobs with loads or money and links to the royals(apparently)

Don't know what I am,in terms of income, economic worth etc then I'm dangling way down there at the bottom. I think your outlook and attitude, willingness to learn has a lot to do with it. I suppose I would like to say middle class, but the UK in generally is aspiring middle class, eg not willing to be paid £5 an hour that say Polish people will etc. Who knows.
Reply:I'm classless

I could chat comfortably with people who could buy where you work or with people who would scare you just by how hard their lives have been.
Reply:I grew up in a working class home. My dad worked in a steel mill and my mom was a stay-at-home mom. Neither of them had anything more than a high school education. We lived in the suburbs, but my dad had to work long hours just to afford to live in our neighborhood--he knew that the only way my sister and I would ever break out of a middle working class family was if we had a good education.

I was the first college graduate in my entire family. I ended up moving to New York City and started my career, far away from my Midwest roots. Now I would say I'm upper-middle class. I have what my parents would call, "a white collar, office job."

It's difficult to interact when I go home to visit my extended family. They all value working class thing--sit around the TV and drink Budweiser. I've grown up and introduced them to things they had never experienced before--drinking wine with meals, going to museums, appreciate art, meeting diverse groups of people, etc.

So to sum it up, I'm in a different class than my parents--but because of that, I'm able to teach them new things about life... long after they taught me the basics!
