Will Social Security let you change your social security card.?

Someone stole my indenty and therefore I have to change my social security, but I think social security has told me they don't like to do that. I wonder what you think I have been a victim of indenty frand and was wonder what your thought were and if you knew anyone that changed there social security? were they able to change there social security without any problems.

Will Social Security let you change your social security card.?
You can make an appointment and bring proof that someone is still using your number: http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10064.html#getti... . In extreme circumstances, if you have been unable to resolve the identity problem, then they'll give you a new number.

Other things you can do short of getting a new number that many people don't know about is that you have the ability to add a comment to all of your credit reports. You can place restrictions on your credit report so that, for example, credit can only be applied for in person instead of online. You can go to the Websites for Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union for details. Also, make sure that you get copies of all your credit reports and dispute every fraudulent entry. You can actually do all that online by going to the aforementined credit bureau sites.
Reply:Thanks for voting me best answer. Another thing I forgot to mention is that you are entitled to a free credit report each year from each of the bureaus: https://www.annualcreditreport... . A law was passed 2 years ago which forced the credit industry to setup that website. Report It

Reply:you can request that they change your number, but most likely, you will have the same number and will need to monitor your credit
Reply:I've never heard of anyone changing the SSN before
Reply:Getting a new Social Security number

If you have done all you can to fix the problem and someone still is using your number, we may assign you a new number. We cannot guarantee that a new number will solve your problem.

You cannot get a new Social Security number if:

You filed for bankruptcy;

You intend to avoid the law or your legal responsibility; or

Your Social Security card is lost or stolen, but there is no evidence that someone is using your number.
Reply:Make a personal appointment at the Social Security office and make them deal with this.
Reply:I would think if you got a new number you would lose everything you have paid into the original number. It seems you would want to get your original number with all your credits.
Reply:report the problem to the Social Security Administration by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY; 1-800-325-0778). Our representatives will take action to ensure that your Social Security records are correct.

also some info on this web site

hope this helps
Reply:Generally they will replace the card but not give another number that is a very good question but the sad thing is the one you have now is the one you will have when you die. Best wishes.
Reply:prove your a victim of identity theft..

Social security will look into how bad it was..and determine from there..and YES it is possible to get a new SS #
