Why do social workers, social care workers and youth workers need to be aware of social policy since 1945.?
As governments change and social policy changes, so does how we expect society to care for those who need support. Sociology provides someof the answers - Collectivism, Fundamentalism, Meritcracy etc. If you look at how society has changed, especially in the 60's and 70's when there was a timeof social change you would be able to link current policy. As a former social worker, now a Strategy %26amp; Development Officer for social services, I have to understand new govt policies and interpret how this will impact upon our duties, and how it affects service provision. Try visiting the social work student site and typing in social policy. As others have said, NHS has probably had the biggest influence on policy, more recently NHS and Community Care Act etc moves away from care to support and recently Direct Payments - it's an interesting subject I hope you do well x
Reply:Because 1945 marked the end of the War and the beginning of the rebuilding of our country and society. It was from this point that major social changes began to be introduced i.e. Education, Health Service and a massive homes building programme. The next five to ten years probably saw the biggest social changes ever to have taken place in this country and are still the basis for the society we live in now.
Reply:By studying the trends since WW2 you can see how society has changed and how the different ways of dealing with things have been discarded for what was considered better.

I presume the date is because that was before the NHS came into being and the massive changes that brought about.

The last 60 years have changed socity completely, but always for the good?
Reply:So that they can be aware of abuse and know what to report. Basically for them to know how to handle social issues.
