My husband 64 is on social security and has had 2 strokes. I am 55 no working because I stay home to take care of him and our disabled son 30.
If my husband would pass away, will his social security check stop coming or would I be able to receive it since we have been married over 10 yrs and I am not working?
Social Security Check?
You would probably get a survivor's benefit based on his SS record. See www.ssa.gov.
Reply:You could be eligible for death benifits. I do know that if a person who is receiving social security dies before they receive the next check, that check MUST be mailed back!!! Whoever cashes that check in this situation, WILL have to repay the Social security office. You need to check with Social Security office to line out what needs to happen when your husband dies.
Reply:you would receive nothing until you were eligible for SS. 62 1/2 or 65.
Then you would receive the higher of your own SS or a survivor SS.
